Valuing the past, sustaining the future

Coastal childhoods in transition

The rich narratives and digital displays you will find in this immersive exhibition are based on findings from our interdisciplinary collaboration:

“Valuing the Past Sustaining the Future: Education, knowledge and identity across three generations in coastal communities”

This project has explored the memories and experiences of those who have grown up and lived in small coastal communities over three generations, and across five countries; Norway, Ireland, The Faroe Islands, Cyprus and Australia (Tasmania).  We have used biographic interview methods and ethnography to better understand how life in these communities may have changed over the timescale of our research (1945-2023), for grandparents, parents, and youth.
